DURING THE WET
Aboriginal bark Paintings from Western Arnhem Land, Maningrida
For thousands of years the Aboriginal communities in Australiaís Western Arnhem Land have actively pursued a variety of artistic endeavors, including rock painting, bark painting and elaborate weavings. While exhibited extensively in Australia, these artworks are just beginning to travel internationally. The bark paintings featured in DURING THE WET are by a group of artists from the Maningrida community, most of whom have never exhibited in the United States before.
Robin Rose ENDEAVOR
ENDEAVOR, an exhibition of new encaustic paintings by Robin Rose, is as much about the process and labors of making a thing as it is about the final product. Reflecting on explorer James Cook, whose ship was called The Endeavour, Robin Rose feels the importance of seeing his process through to the very end. The result is a cohesive body of paintings. When examined individually, each offers a unique viewing experience.
