KABAKOV

Included in the exhibition are a scale model and drawings of "The Large House of Humanity," 1998, an unrealized project designed for the bank of the Potomac River in Washington DC. The proposed monument has a perimeter of approximately 70 x 50 meters and a height commensurate with the Washington Monument. The white metal construction forms the contours of a traditional American home with a mansard roof. From a distance this gigantic "house" appears like a white mirage against the blue sky. Suspended from the ceiling inside the house are wire letters that read: "Since home we have but one, this earth we live upon. With our home in constant motion we are striving toward the stars."
